Richard Marvin Smith Sr. of Lant Road, St.Ignace passed away Wednesday evening, August 14 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie on May 19,1937 to Marvin Sr. and Edith (Closs) Smith. He retired from the Mackinac Island State Parks after over 32 years of service. He was a painter, and loved to sing and play piano, even though he had a hunting accident as a teen ager losing his left arm. He was a great baseball player before he lost his arm, and continued to be a hugh Tiger fan. He also had a garden on Lant Road after retirement.

He is survived by his family; Richard Smith Jr. (Tracy McCluskey), St.Ignace; Brian Smith (Jamie Wallace) Kincheloe; daughter, Lisa (LeRoy) Sayles, Moran; brothers, Gene Smith, St.Ignace; Keith (Debora) Smith, Carp Lake; sister, Joy (Tim) Gulick, Brimley; and 8 grandchildren. also there are 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchldren..

Cremation has taken place and a  celebration of his life will be at the VFW Post in St.Ignace on  Saturday, August 24 from 1 to 4 pm. His ashes will be buried in Gros Cap Cemetery later.. Dodson Funeral Home, St.Ignace assisted with arrangements.
