Agnes Bernice Hood

Bernice Hood, 82 of Trout Lake Road, Caffey passed away Wednesday, September 10 at Marquette General Hospital. She was born November 14,1931 in St.Ignace to Fred and Mayme (Prout) Struble. She graduated from high school when she was 48 yrs, old, and very proud of that accomplishment. She married  John Hood on May 10.1958 in Trout Lake, and he died October 29,2008. She was treasurer of Hendricks Township nearly 50 years, and now was assistant treasurer. She was a bar tender for Alice Warren at the Nicholet Lounge in St.Ignace for 20 years; and also worked for the DNR and the Cut River Inn. She was most famous for the the history of Rexton and surrounding area, having people come to for their ansestory and history of families. Since she was the historian she loved to dig  at old logging camps and collected the antiques there. Along with that she liked garage sales and auctions to add to her collection. She enjoyed softball and played all her life, and was an avid bowler. She also was an excellent baseball player, and could hit and run with the best of the guys. She took pride in her family, and was a sports fan for her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She is a member of the Sault Tribe Chippewa Indians. and the St. Mary's Catholic Church.. She was a Census taker one year, a job she detested. She was an avid Lions fan and would not go to any function if the Tigers were playing.  She had a mind of her own, and she spoke it, but was loved by all who knew her She was a fighter and stoodup to those twice her size, and enjoyed every minute of it. She will be  sorely missed.

She is survived by her family, Daughter, Alice and Tony Martis, Rexton; Sons;; Howard and Cheryl Hood, Caffey; William and Kim Hood, Newberry; Ellis and Carrie Hood in New York; and special friend, Cindy and Clinton Comstock, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is the last of the 5 Struble siblings.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 14 at Dodson Funeral Home at 4 pm with visitation from 1 to 4 pm. Frank Formolo was the speaker at the gathering. Cremation will follow and her ashes will be buried in Epoufette Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear about Bernice. She was one of my favorite patients who became a friend. I think about her everyday when I put on the watch that she gave me. I will miss her.

I will always remember Bernice as a person who liked to go to garage sales. we always had a laugh. I first met her at the bowling alley years ago. She will be missed. My condolences to all the family
