Leona May Litzner Brown, 91 of Hessel passed away  Friday, November 2 at Medilodge in the Soo following a lingering illness. She was born in Cedarville on October 22,1927 to Harvey William and Lucy May (Andress) Dutcher. She finished high school and was a LPN at Mackinac Straits Long Term Care in ST.Ignace. after working as an aide.  She lived in ST.Ignace area 42 years, moving back to Hessel to live on the Reservation. She was very active in the Sault Tribe Chippewa Indians, and the Hessel Elders. She was an active Cribbage Player with the Elders Cribbage League, and very active with the childrens drug abuse program. She loved reading, and caring for many plants, and she loved hre cats, Muckadae and Minue. She was married to Ray Litzner many years, and he died of a stroke in 1994. She then married Dean Brown in 1998, and he died in 2006.
She is survived by 2 step daughters, Cheryl and Scott Moser, Holland, and Yvonne "Katie" and George Backus, Harbor Springs, and grandchildren Mike and Amy Crisp and Dan and Claudia Crisp, and 7 great grandchildren. and special longtime friend, Sharon Hawes, Hessel. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and sons, Harvey Crisp and Howard "Buddy" Crisp; step children, Brook Litzner and Pamela Ann Cain.
Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home on Friday, November 9 from 10 to 11 am when services will be held with Fr. Frank Ricca Offciating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, Sault Ste MArie. A lunch will be served at the Tribal Center in Hessel following the service at the funeral home..
